Costa Nova's recycled collections come from the surplus of our own factory production. That makes the tableware extremely durable.
What is eco gres®?
Eco Gres® is a registered trademark. Products under this label are guaranteed to be made from non-hazardous recycled materials, derived from ceramic surpluses and other additives. All Eco Gres products® are guaranteed food safe and meet international standards.
In addition, Eco Gres® is in line with the European directives 2006/12/CE and 2008/98/CE, aimed at transforming the EU into a recycling society. This trademark is the result of years of internal research, in collaboration with a local university (Universidade de Aveiro), and the result is an improved (recycled) raw material that offers several environmental benefits:
- Conservation of natural resources by reducing the volume of extraction of natural raw materials;
- Energy efficiency reducing the ecological footprint;
- Health and safety, reducing waste sent to landfill.
The process of sustainable tableware - collecting and recycling
Costa Nova sees its sustainable products and activities as part of a long life cycle and is committed to taking better care of the community and the world.
In this commitment to sustainability, Costa Nova develops a new raw material, by collecting, recycling and reusing clay and glazes from its own activities and other materials.
The result is the sustainable tableware Eco Gres®, a reinvented clay, made from recycled materials and completely environmentally friendly.
How is the circular tableware eco gres® made?
The production process of Eco Gres® circular tableware starts with collecting clay waste from our factory and combining it with other materials to stabilize the final composition.
The recycled clay represents approximately 25% of all clay purchased from external suppliers. Finally, the Eco Gres® circular tableware consists of 90% recycled materials and other substances.
Finally, a homogeneous and flexible clay body is obtained, ready to be (re)used in Costa Nova's production line. The entire process takes place in the same factory and also contributes to the reduction of the ecological footprint.
